Abstract

Faults affecting the automotive engines will potentially cause enlarged emissions, raised fuel consumption or engine damage. These negative impacts could also be prevented, or a minimum of relieved, if faults can be detected and isolated during a timely manner. The us Federal and State regulations dictate that automotive engines operate with an aboard Diagnosis (OBD) system to alter the detection of faults leading to enlarged emissions. In this paper, we have a tendency to survey and discuss the various aspects of fault detection and identification in automotive engine systems.
